As for the future of the show, supervising producer Greg Weisman said Hobgoblin would debut in Season 3, noting that officially, "We don't have a pick up for Season 3, but we have a plan." He said Season 2 world feature Mysterio and Kraven, along with several other new and returning villains, including Venom, Vulture, Doc Ock, The Master Planner, The Sinister Six, Molten Man. Weisman said that many characters, including even Flash Thompson and Coach Smith, "get more depth in Season 2," and that there would be story arcs for Gwen, Mary Jane and Jonah.
Best of all for the audience, despite the fact that Season 2 is still in the early stages of animation, some quick scenes were shown. The first showed Spider-Man in an indoor fight with Mysterio, albeit with a blown open ceiling showing a snowy exterior. Mysterio resembles his comic counterpart, but there is more of a vague shape of a face inside his fishbowl helmet – referred to by the producers as a gumball dispenser – with a shadowy face and two large eyes. Mysterio is speaking what appear to be incantations as he uses his abilities, hinting that perhaps this version uses the façade that he is a true magician, to hide his special effects prowess. At one point he unleashes a horde of bats at Spider-Man, who cut and slice him. One grabs on to his ankle and looks up at him, with a momentary cute expression, before chomping into him.
The next scene shown began with Spidey standing in front of a Daily Bugle billboard, as Kraven the Hunter begins shooting arrows at him. Kraven looks almost exactly as he's classically been portrayed, and sports a thick Russian accent. Spidey keeps avoiding his arrows, which hit the picture of J. Jonah Jameson on the billboard behind him. When a frustrated Kraven takes the fight into a more one-on-one physical arena, Spidey asks him where he's from, and Kraven replies, "Mother Russia, by way of Mother Africa!" to which Spider-Man replies, "Two moms and still so ill-behaved?" Kraven grabs onto Spider-Man as he swings on his web, with the two fighting while swinging back and forth. We then cut to the inside of an office building, where a woman works at his computer. Suddenly Spider-Man and Kraven smash into the window, not completely shattering it, but cracking it almost completely. Though clearly done just for the preview, the music heard inside the building is an amusing Musak version of The Spectacular Spider-Man theme song.
As the panel neared its end, Weisman also revealed that Stan Lee has voiced a character in the Season 2 premiere of Spectacular, one whom looks just like him, as a nod to the cameos Lee makes in most Marvel movies. Weisman also revealed, "I got him to sign my script. It was really cool!"
As revealed at the panel, The Spectacular Spider-Man: Season 2 will premiere in March, 2009.
